the philadelphia eleven

The Philadelphia Eleven is a new feature documentary film currently in postproduction.

"This is a story that is grounded in a mandate to be true to ourselves. It is the story of a call that is denied, and the determination it takes to overcome the barriers and live out the call with integrity. In this case, it is a call to the priesthood; yet each of us, no matter our faith, our race, our gender, our sexual orientation, our (dis)abilities or anything else that defines us, have a vocation. Like the women in this story, for many of us, society’s expectations and institutions stand in the way. This is as real today as it was during the time this story took place."
- Margo Guernsey, Film Director

Logline:
A group of women organize their own ordination to be Episcopal priests in 1974 and challenge two millennia of patriarchal Christianity. In a largely archival journey, with obvious parallels to today, we meet the women who succeed in creating a blueprint for lasting institutional change.
