Meet Our Founder
I came to filmmaking with a broad range of experience including union organizing, non-profit development/fundraising, and a Masters degree in history. I have over fourteen years of experience creating feature documentaries through deeply collaborative, community- centered processes. My work draws on grassroots organizing to engage stakeholders from the earliest stages of production, inviting them to provide research and help build and sustain a network of support. This approach fosters lasting relationships and leads to meaningful distribution through community screenings and successful impact campaigns.
I am inspired by Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s teachings about power and the production of history; namely that the storytellers shape our understanding of who we are and where we come from. Those who control narratives are often the victors and they do so to benefit their interests. I believe film has a unique ability to engage audiences to listen more carefully to the voices that are silenced.
For me, the act of making films is a sacred mission of truth telling and caring for those on the margins. Stories are fundamentally about people encountering challenges and overcoming them. The best storytelling leaves viewers transformed. I explore collective storytelling as a sacred practice that undermines narratives of individualism, and encourages dialogue, communion and seeing the divine in each other.
I am a proud mother of two wonderful children and one dog. I live in a multi-generational home where elder care and childcare fuse, and I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English.
